Kentucky Court of Appeals upholds firing of ex-LMPD detective connected to raid at Breonna Taylor's apartment

Joshua Jaynes is accused of falsifying the search warrant that led to the raid on Breonna Taylor's home.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The state's highest court upheld the Louisville Metro Police Merit Board's vote to fire former LMPD Det. Joshua Jaynes.

Jaynes is accused of falsifying the search warrant that led to the raid on Breonna Taylor's home.

He was fired in January 2021 by former interim Chief Yvette Gentry.

But he has fought the decision and sued the department.

The Jefferson Circuit Court upheld the decision, and now the appellate court has done the same.

Jaynes' attorney, Thomas Clay, told WHAS11 News that "we were disappointed, but not surprised."

Jaynes still faces federal charges for allegedly violating Taylor's civil rights that night.

While no date has been set as of this writing, the judge had set a status update hearing for Feb. 21, 2023 to check on the progress virtually.
