LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two juveniles have been arrested and face felony charges in connection to a fake bomb threat at an Old Louisville daycare, Louisville Metro Police said.
Both juveniles have been charged with second-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony.
Wednesday morning, there was heavy police presence in the 200 block of East Jacob Street and authorities asked residents to avoid the area.
The department said the threat was called in to the "Skillz for Life" Development and Wellness Center.
Seventeen children at the daycare center were evacuated as a precaution. Parents of students have been or will be contacted by their director, police said.
LMPD's Bomb Squad and bomb-sniffing canines were on the scene. Police had closed the I-65 ramp to Brook Street and Broadway during the investigation to check an area under the bypass, but nothing was found.
Despite the "all-clear" from police, the situation has left the daycare's co-owner, Jason Harris, shaken.
"From the noise and everything I heard in the background, I figured it was like some high school students playing a prank," he said. "I was shocked at first and then when they called back with the actual bomb threat, that's when I was like, this is serious, so we need to evacuate immediately."
The daycare has closed for the remainder of the day Wednesday, however they plan to reopen Thursday morning.
