Hurricane Bay, Splashin' Safari opening this weekend

Just in time for a very hot weekend, two water parks are opening to the public. Social distancing guidelines will still need to be followed.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It’s going to be a hot Fourth of July weekend in Kentucky and Indiana and two major water parks are opening just in time. As with everything else that’s reopening, experiences at Hurricane Bay and Splashin’ Safari will look a little different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Hurricane Bay, the water park at Louisville's Kentucky Kingdom, will fully reopen at 11 a.m. on July 3. Guests at the park are encouraged to wear face coverings while at the park, when it is safe to do so. Guests will also have to go through a temperature screening before being allowed to enter the park.

Visitors can see which attractions are open on each day by visiting the park’s “Today @ the Kingdom” page.

In Santa Claus, Indiana, Holiday World is opening its water park, Splashin’ Safari, on Saturday, July 4.

For the 2020 season, Holiday World has implemented a virtual queue system that visitors can access on their phones. That system will be used in the water park as well as the main park, but reservations are not required for kids' play areas and wave pools.

A new ride is opening at Splashin’ Safari this year as well. The dueling water coaster, Cheetah Chase, will be open to the public when the water park opens July 4.

Guests will need to buy tickets online before going to the park. Other changes to Holiday World's operations for this year include different hours and no Halloween weekends this fall. As of this time, face masks are not required at Holiday World, but the park said it would continue to follow Indiana state guidelines.
