Gov. Andy Beshear declares State of Emergency due to severe weather

At least one person in Louisville has died as a result of the severe weather on Sunday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Governor Andy Beshear announced just after midnight on Monday that he is issuing a State of Emergency for Kentucky.

This comes after strong winds, possible tornadoes and severe flooding tore through The Commonwealth Sunday afternoon and evening.

Mayor Craig Greenberg announced Sunday that at least one person has died as a result of the storms.

"I'm sad to report we've had one fatality following the severe weather that just moved through the area and some structural damage reported," Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said on social media. "Please join me in holding this family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

According to Louisville Metro Police (LMPD), it's believed the person died after being struck by a fallen tree on Hobbs Station Road between the small cities of Anchorage and Lyndon.

Neighbors believed the man killed was a landscaper who was trying to get work done before the storms hit

Emergency management officials across the region have reported numerous downed trees and powerlines. Tens of thousands of households and businesses are without power with the majority located in Jefferson County.
