LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Baristas at Sunergos Coffee are ending a seven-day strike after negotiating their first contract with company leaders.

On Monday, the union said the new contract agreement contains many improvements, which include boosting starting wages to $10 an hour, up from the previous $8.25 an hour.

Sunergos also agreed to removing wage caps, which previously held down wages for experienced baristas, the union said.

The new contract also includes additional paid days off including sick time, bereavement and new child leave. It also contains "just cause" provisions, which ensure workers can't be fired or disciplined on an inconsistent or unfair basis.

Union baristas will review the tentative settlement this week and vote on its approval.

This contract comes after months of negotiations, according to the union.

Baristas at all five Sunergos locations in Louisville went on strike starting on Black Friday. The union continued striking for several days to "demonstrate their determination to win a contract that raises the standards for jobs in the coffee industry."

Sunergos workers voted to form a union with 32BJ SEIU back in January of this year.
