'It's just the support that we give': Louisville company steps up with Chromebook donation after nonprofit burglarized

The Delta Foundation says its thankful following a donation from SOS International days after a burglar stole laptops from their facility.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — SOS international of Louisville has saved the day for the Delta Foundation with a generous donation of more than a dozen Chromebooks.

The foundation’s owner, Wes Hinton, was overjoyed when he opened the box filled with laptops.

"Thank you, [I] appreciate it," Hinton said.

Nearly two weeks after surveillance cameras caught a man breaking into the non-profit, more than a dozen Chromebooks were stolen.

Those items were replaced by a generous donation of 15 refurbished Chromebooks from Louisville based non-profit SOS International in the Clifton neighborhood.

"They reached out and just kind of saw what we needed. As soon as I said 'computers', you know [and] no more than a day later, I got a response saying, 'we're going to find a way to make it happen'."

He said the days of more than two kids sharing a laptop are now over.

"Anytime we get something new like this they're grateful," Hinton said. "I think that sometimes they don't realize all of this is free, so we try to let them know to be grateful."

It's a full circle moment for Demetrius Wingate who used to be coached by Wes Hinton.

Wingate now works for SOS International as the director of operations and he helped deliver the Chromebooks.

"I admire the guy I think he's a great dude in what he does and how much he cares about kids in the community I mean it still shows to this day just like it did for me when I was a young kid," he said.

He and his colleagues had no problem giving back to Delta Foundation.

"We're here for them. I mean it's just the support that we give. It's just the nature of the job and what we like to do," Wingate said.

Hinton said tips have started to come in after they posted a photo of the man who Delta foundation believes is responsible for the theft.

"We've had a number of hits. Right now, we're kind of waiting for LMPD to get back with us."

Delta Foundation is in the process of expanding their program to the Newburg neighborhood in the coming weeks.
