Bronze statue near Humana's Waterside Building honors late co-founder

Jones recently received a Hometown Heroes banner and now has a bronze statue in front of Humana's Waterside Building.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Nearly five years after the death of David Jones Sr., the Humana co-founder has now been immortalized with a statue.

The larger than life statue, created by famed sculptor and Louisville artist Ed Hamilton, sits outside of Humana’s Waterside Building and Waterfront Park.

The company was founded as a nursing home in 1961 but saw massive growth in the 80’s to become the healthcare insurance giant it is today.

Jones has quite the legacy in Louisville. He was instrumental in the creation of the Parklands of Floyds Fork and Waterfront Park.

A Hometown Heroes banner of Jones was installed in November 2023 and currently hangs outside of the YMCA at South 2nd and Chestnut Street.
