'It's a great way to give back': Louisville-based company hosts annual coat drive ahead of freezing temps

The yearly 'Spread the Warmth' winter clothing drive was held at Lindsay and Lindsay Auto Detailing. You can still donate new winter clothing items.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It's going to get cold this week!

The expected wind chill temperatures haven't been seen around in the area since 2019.

That means Kentuckiana will have to bundle up from head to toe, and one Louisville-based company is trying to make sure everyone has the clothing they need to do so.

It's the fourth year of the annual 'Spread the Warmth' winter clothing drive at Louisville-based Lindsay and Lindsay Auto Detailing. The company is off Chamberlain Lane at the Gene Snyder Freeway and Westport Road.
Several boxes were filled with donations bound for the Salvation Army.

“We gear this drive mostly toward coats. If not new, then lightly used,” CEO Patrick Lindsay said. “I see a need and as in business or anything else, if there's a need, I like to figure out a way to fill it.”

Lindsay said he and his friends first saw the need in 2017 and decided to host the clothing drive. However, that need was greater than expected.

“We saw some very disturbing things as we were giving the clothes out, saw a massive need for warm clothes, people were in bad situations, to say the least,” he said.

The pandemic stopped the drive for the past two years. Now, they're back, and this time they’re focusing on quality over quantity. Plus, with the weather expected to dip below freezing this week, they're hopeful the items will keep people warm.

Rich Joseph, Vice President of Operations at Omni Logistics, is proud that his company is now helping out with the drive. Omni is providing the transportation for the donations.

“It's a great way to give back and for everybody to give back, not just a single organization,” Joseph said. “Keeping people warm is one of the most important things that we can do as humans this time of year.”

Joseph said the donations filled up the truck and they will be dropped off to the Salvation Army on Tuesday morning. However, he said anyone is welcome to drop off items any time this week.
