Church Picnics a 'No' for this summer, Archdiocese says

Challenges with coronavirus have put picnics on hold for the summer, with Fall hopes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Summer in Louisville can be synonymous with many things, but for the Catholic community, it's picnic season. From St. Bernard kicking it off in May, all the way to the summer's biggest picnic at St. Joseph's in August, the schedule is jam-packed with ride nights, nickel games, and delicious food.

After a WHAS11 viewer asked, we reached out to the Archdioceses to see when/if festivals would be part of summer plans, and Chief Communications Officer Celilia Price told us no.

"No I do not believe parishes will be having picnics," Price began. "In addition to the challenges of social distancing, charitable gaming licenses have been suspended for this type of activity."

Price did say that some parishes are working towards planning virtual activities, and some have tentative dates for the fall as well if picnics are possible then.

"I would encourage viewers to be in touch with their parishes about plans for picnics at a later date," Price concluded.
