Pools at Indiana state parks to remain closed this summer

The DNR said beaches will remain open, but public outdoor swimming pools will remain closed.

INDIANAPOLIS — While campgrounds and other parts of Indiana State Parks reopen, the DNR said public outdoor swimming pools will remain closed during the 2020 summer season.

The DNR said they will remain closed due to the difficulty to keep social distancing on pool decks. The locations of closed pools include Mounds, Prophetstown, Turkey Run, McCormick’s Creek, Spring Mill, Brown County, Versailles, Clifty Falls, O’Bannon Woods, Shakamak and Harmonie state parks, along with the pool at Cagles Mill Lake.

Beaches, however, will remain open for visitors. Inns, restaurants, park offices and nature centers are also open. Rentable picnic shelters, recreation buildings and rally camps are tentatively scheduled to open on June 1 for groups of 100 or fewer people, with social distancing.

Kayaks, canoes and paddleboats can also be rented to take onto lakes. For more information, visit on.IN.gov/dnrcovid19.
