BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. — A southern Indiana man was killed in a workplace accident on Wednesday, officials said.

The Bartholomew County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 66-year-old Charles Carson, of Elizabethtown, Indiana.

Officials said the incident happened around noon Wednesday at 14000 N CR 250 W in Edinburgh.

According to the coroner, Carson was working on a piece of equipment on the shop floor when he was hit in the head by a piece of metal hanging from a crane.

Edinburgh Fire and EMS, as well as the city's police department, arrived on scene first and begin performing life-saving measures, however they were unsuccessful.
