Volunteers clean trash from Falls of the Ohio on Earth Day

Lots of garbage, including appliances, can be found in these cleanup events.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Monday was a beautiful day to celebrate Earth Day, and Leadership Southern Indiana marked the event with a cleanup at Falls of the Ohio State Park in Clarksville.

Recent storms had scattered garbage and debris along the banks of the river. Volunteers collected more than 450 pounds of garbage, including a tire and a boat.

Lots of garbage, including appliances, can be found in these cleanup events.

"We always feel like anything we can do to just to help give back; it always makes you feel good anytime  you're doing it," President Mark Eddy said. "It's something for yourself, you're doing it for your community, you're doing it for your environment especially on Earth Day. It's a great day to do it and so we're just glad the river went down far enough so we could actually be out here."

This was the second year the group organized a cleanup.

Leadership Southern Indiana is a nonprofit that trains and supports leaders in the area.
