Louisville Zoo celebrates 'Party for the Planet' ahead of Earth Day

The annual party showed off different eco-friendly displays made by various organizations that could help benefit the community and planet.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Monday marks Earth Day and the Louisville Zoo held celebrations Sunday with their annual Party for the Planet.

Mayor Craig Greenberg, representatives from LG&E and KU Foundation and student winners from Kids in Action were all on hand to celebrate.

Students from the Kids in Action program designed conservation activities that would make a positive impact in the community. Examples were creating a pollinator garden, cleaning up a park or collecting rainwater from a home garden.

These are things that help make Earth healthier ahead of Earth Day.

“Earth Day is near and dear to us,” Dan Maloney, director of the Louisville Zoo said. “We try our best to promote all things good for the planet. Our slogan is ‘bettering the bond between people and the planet’ and Earth Day does a great job promoting such an event.

The official theme for Earth Day is “Planet vs. Plastics.”
