Sen. Rand Paul invites Louisville mayor to be guest at State of the Union

"I'm focused on building relationships that can help move Louisville forward," Mayor Craig Greenberg said.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — President Joe Biden delivered a fiery State of the Union Address on Thursday night pushing for unity among Democrats and Republicans.

In a surprise show of it, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul invited Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg to be his guest. Each member of Congress is allowed to bring one guest to the State of the Union.

Paul said he was “excited" to have Greenberg as his guest.

"We have a good working relationship and have met several times to discuss Louisville issues and each time our discussions have been pleasant and free from partisanship," he said.

The Louisville mayor posted on X saying:

"I'm focused on building relationships that can help move Louisville forward. From meeting city, state and national leaders to attending the State of the Union, my time in D.C. showed me we have opportunities to collaborate, drive investments and move our city in a new direction."

Greenberg also made stops to visit Republican Representative Hal Rogers and fellow Democrat Morgan McGarvey.

In a statement sent to WHAS11, the mayor's office said they are hoping to raise Louisville's profile in Washington and with the Biden Administration. They said they want to keep Louisville on the radar of those who are making investment decisions at the federal level.
