Derby Diversity Week continuing its mission to amplify inclusion

The week is an opportunity to be inclusive and promote unity throughout the community.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Derby is just days away and one group is continuing its mission to amplify and celebrate diversity.

Derby Diversity Week is an opportunity to be inclusive and promote unity throughout the community.

This year’s theme is “Tapping into Innovation and Securing Investment. It reflects forward thinking, recognizing how innovation drives economic impact and social change.

A series of events will be held during Derby Week aimed at fostering dialogues and collaboration between culturally different groups of people.

“We’re celebrating members of the LGBTQI+ community. We’re celebrating members of the LatinX community, Hispanic community, women, people of color, and its conversations around investment and innovation,” JP Davis, president of TBain & Co. said. “We’re asking ourselves; how can we leverage this week to better support business and help people grow their businesses?”

Many of the events will happen at the Black Jockeys Lounge on South Fourth Street. They said it is a tribute to Black jockeys whose “legacy in horse racing is a story of excellence overshadowed by systematic barriers.”

It is the seventh year of Derby Diversity Week.
