Officer Nick Wilt is 'maintaining high spirits' while showing signs of progress

While he's been on a therapeutic break since mid-January, his family reported Wilt is now walking with a cane under close supervision.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Almost a year after being shot at Old National Bank, Ofc. Nick Wilt is showing signs of progress and is working towards semi-independence.

According to a social media post from the Louisville Metro Police Foundation, Wilt is showing "encouraging progress in his recovery journey at home, maintaining high spirits."

While he's been on a therapeutic break since mid-January, his family reported Wilt is now walking with a cane under close supervision and is able to do tasks like brushing his teeth and walking to the kitchen to grab food.

He is focused on muscle flexibility and endurance, and he is still working on "waking up" his left arm his family said, and is using specialized exercises to help.

Wilt responded to the shooting at Old National Bank when he was shot. He was then rushed to UofL Hospital, where he remained in critical condition for nearly a month.

After multiple surgeries and procedures at UofL Hospital and Jewish Hospital, his condition improved enough to be transferred to Frazier Rehabilitation Institute where he continued his therapy through outpatient care.

In total, Wilt spent more than three and a half months recovering in the hospital.
