Mount Washington 18-year-old charged with attempted murder of a police officer. Here's why

According to her arrest citation, Kenzie Vanarsdale was arrested Saturday after she stabbed an officer in the face with a screwdriver.

MOUNT WASHINGTON, Ky. — A Mount Washington woman is being charged with attempted murder of a police officer.

Kenzie Vanarsdale, 18, was arrested by Mount Washington Police on Saturday after she allegedly stabbed an officer in the face with a screwdriver.

According to Vanarsdale's arrest citation, Officer Bramer was unlocking Lindsey Duvall Park at the start of his Saturday morning shift around 6 a.m.

Bramer said he saw the teen inside the locked park. The citation said she was initially compliant and came to his vehicle and gave him her information, but as Bramer was writing down her information, Vanarsdale ran away.

The citation said Bramer chased her down, identifying himself as a police officer multiple times and commanding her to stop. Eventually, the teen stopped and put her hands in the air.

As Bramer tried to place her in handcuffs, the citation said Vanarsdale spun around around with a screwdriver and struck him in the face. According to police, she stabbed him nearly three inches above his left eye.

Authorities said Vanarsdale was trying to cause serious physical injury, and possibly kill, Bramer.

EMS later responded to the scene and treated Bramer's wound. On Saturday, Mount Washington Police spokesman Sgt. Austin Battcher told WHAS11 News that the officer was doing "okay."

Vanarsdale is currently being booked at the Bullitt County Detention Center.
