Louisville Ford workers vote against ratifying new contract. What that means.

The results of the vote reveal that Ford plant employees in Louisville are divided on whether or not to accept the automaker's contract.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Ford workers are divided over a contract deal with the automaker, the results of ratification vote reveal.

2,744 total workers at the Kentucky Truck Plant and Louisville Assembly Plant voted "yes" to ratify the tentative contract agreement the UAW reached with Ford. 3,022 voted not to pass the new contract.

Local UAW 862 released the results of the vote around midnight. The results show the company's production workers voted against the deal while skilled trades workers voted in favor of it.

55% of the production workers at Louisville's Ford plants voted against the new 4.5 year contract. 69% of skilled trade workers voted for it.

The new contract would guarantee a 25% wage increase for workers and reinstate cost of living adjustments -- which were both things employees gave up during the financial crisis of 2008.

Local 862 Leader Todd Dunn says now that Louisville has had its say, we'll have to wait for the rest of the Ford workers across the country to cast their votes before a final decision can be made.

"It's an overall majority. It's not a 50% plus 1, yes it passed you're good to go. So they take in all the numbers of everyone who voted across the country and do that population," Dunn said.

After the Louisville and Kentucky plants votes were tallied, the national UAW ratification results dropped from 70% in-favor of the new contract to 65%.
