Huge investments set for Ford's Kentucky plants amid UAW tentative agreement

A new electric vehicle is being planned for the Louisville Assembly Plant, according to UAW officials.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — UAW leaders at Ford plants have voted unanimously to approve the tentative agreement made with the automaker.

On top of the 25% wage increase, members will receive a $1,500 voucher towards a vehicle purchase as well as cost of living adjustments.

Ford will also invest $750 million in the Kentucky Truck Plant and $1.2 billion at the Louisville Assembly Plant.

The LAP will continue to produce Escape and Corsair models through their planned product life cycles. It was reported that production on the Escape SUV would reach the end of their life cycle in 2025 which led to speculation about the plant’s future. Ford also announced the development of a new EV headed to the plant as well.

The F-Series Super Duty, Expedition, Navigator and hybrid EV models will continue production at the Kentucky Truck Plant.

“This contract is about more than just economic gains for auto workers. It's a turning point in the class war that's been raging in this country for the past 40 years,” UAW President Shawn Fain said. “The auto workers at Ford just won a major battle in the fight for a better world. Billionaires aren't going to save the American dream. Working class people are saving the American dream.”

Gov. Andy Beshear congratulated Ford and the UAW on bringing a new electric vehicle to the LAP.

“This is great news for our hard-working UAW families and for Kentucky,” Gov. Beshear said in a statement released Sunday night. “We are pleased to see Ford continue its longstanding commitment to our workers and our future. We are continuing to build that better Kentucky we all want.”

Members are expected to vote on the tentative deal as early as Nov. 3.
