Louisville college student wins first prize in Hole-In-One Golf Contest

Although no one has won the $1 million prize in over 30 years, a Louisville college student came the closest this year.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After more than thirty years of swings, the Kentucky Derby Festival's $1 million prize for its Hole-In-One Golf Contest remains out of reach.

No one aced the 8th hole at Seneca Golf Course on Tuesday, though a Louisville college student came the closest.

This was Sean Macfarlane's first time participating in the Derby Festival's golf event. He hit his tee just 10 feet and 11.5 inches from the cup, winning himself the $5,000 prize.

Macfarlane told KDF officials he plans to put his winnings toward a golf membership and promised to come back next year to participate.

55 finalists took their shot at $1 million Tuesday evening. Any golfer who made a hole-in-one during the qualifying rounds automatically qualified for the Finals and a shot at $1 million. Any amateur player is eligible to enter and each swing costs just $1.
