LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad is vowing a "rigorous review" of all use of force incidents.
In a letter published online by The Courier Journal, Conrad said his department works hard to be transparent after shootings involving officers.
His letter comes weeks after LMPD officers shot and killed a man in PRP who was wielding a screwdriver.
In the days that followed, community groups called for the department to improve de-escalation tactics, especially when people with mental illnesses are involved.
Conrad said officers receive instruction on de-escalation as part of their annual training and they're working to implement a new model into their training.
