School safety bill passes Kentucky Senate

The bill from Senator Max Wise proposes allowing former military, federal agents, and retired state troopers to work in schools.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The proposal aimed at school safety in Kentucky has now passed the state Senate.

Senate Bill 2 builds on a law passed in 2019, requiring a school resource officer on every public school campus.

The bill from Senator Max Wise proposes allowing former military, federal agents, and retired state troopers to work in schools.

They would be armed employees working in schools, but they wouldn’t be able to make arrests.

The bill also includes increased suicide prevention awareness and directs the Department of Education to provide training on childhood trauma.

The proposal now heads to the Kentucky House for consideration.
