Southern Indiana singer earns spot in American Idol's Top 20

The Sellersburg native is one step closer to winning the longtime singing competition.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kennedy Reid has made it through to the next round of hopefuls yearning to become the next American Idol.

The Sellersburg, Indiana native made it to the Top 20 of the competition after fan votes.

Her cover of “Fancy” by Reba McIntyre during last week's show earned her a standing ovation and praise from all three judges including guest judge, country singer Jelly Roll.

On this week’s show, Reid went for a heartwarming performance with a rendition of “Love Can Build a Bridge” by The Judds.

Reid’s signature hairstyle was much different, showcasing a sleeker look while giving much more to her vocal performance.

The judges noticed the change up, and Katy Perry raved about how the competition is helping Reid grow as a singer.

“You got exactly what you were supposed to get coming to this show,” she said.

When asked about what she’s learned so far being in the competition, Reid said she’s learning to love herself.

If you want to help Reid get through to the next round, voting begins after Sunday night’s telecast and closes around 9 a.m. EDT on Monday.

Find out Monday night at 8 p.m. if Reid will move on to the Top 14 of the competition.
