WASHINGTON — Katy Perry is walking away from the judge's table on "American Idol" after seven seasons.

The singer announced the farewell season during an appearance on the late night show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Monday night.

"I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for 'Idol,'" Perry revealed to Kimmel. "I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat, you know what I'm saying, Jimmy?"

The "Roar" singer joined Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan on the judge's panel in 2018 during the show's 16th season, when it was moved to ABC.

Kimmel, who was admittedly "taken aback" by the announcement, asked Perry if her fellow judges knew about her decision.

"Well, they'll find out tonight," she said to Kimmel before assuring the late night host that Richie and Bryan were aware she had "some things planned for this year."

Among those things planned is a performance at Rock in Rio, a music festival in Brazil. The "Fireworks" singer also dropped several hints throughout the interview that she will have new music soon.

"It's going to be a very, very exciting year, Jimmy, for all pop star girlies," Perry said. "Let's just say I'm creating space for my new wingspan."

"I love the show so much, but I want to go and see the world and maybe bring new music," she added.

It has been four years since Perry's last album "Smile." The singer also wrapped a Las Vegas residency last November.

Perry's last season on the singing competition, Season 22, debuts on Sunday, Feb. 18 on ABC.
