ISP investigating after deadly shooting in southern Indiana

Authorities said no arrests have been made at this time.

SCOTTSBURG, Ind. — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened east of Scottsburg early Wednesday morning. 

Scott County deputies responded to a shooting at an apartment located on the 2000 block of E. SR 56 around 1 a.m., according to Indiana State Police (ISP).

ISP discovered that two men were involved in an argument in the home and one of them shot the other with a handgun during the dispute.

The man who was shot, 49-year-old Edward Calton, was transported to Scott County Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. 

Authorities are continuing the investigation; however, no arrests have been made at this time. Detectives do not believe there is any current danger to the public, and all of the people involved have been identified.

This investigation is ongoing.
