'Book Buggy' brings free lunches, books to students this summer

JCPS will run its Book Buggy every Tuesday and Wednesday in June, offering free lunches and books to students regardless of whether they attend JCPS.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Starting June 11, Jefferson County Public Schools will run its Book Buggy every Tuesday and Wednesday, providing students with free books and lunches this summer.

Though the initiative was started by JCPS, anyone under 18 can receive a lunch regardless of whether they attend JCPS. Students will also receive two new books, information on a weekly topic, dental and personal hygiene and school supplies.

"The Book Buggy is a great way for students to stay engaged, entertained and energized about learning when they're out of school," Maria Carrico, Title 1 specialist for JCPS, said.
