LMPD: Man found dead on I-65 hit by 3 separate vehicles

LMPD's initial investigation revealed he had climbed the I-65 guardrail from Arthur Street around 1:30 a.m. and was standing on the shoulder when he was first hit.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man is dead after an apparent hit-and-run on Interstate 65 near the University of Louisville, according to police.

Officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department's (LMPD) Fourth Division responded to a report of a hit-and-run on I-65 at Arthur Street around 9:15 a.m. on Monday.

When police arrived, they found a man who had been struck by a vehicle in the right hand emergency lane. The man was already dead when officers arrived, LMPD said.

LMPD's initial investigation revealed the man had climbed the I-65 guardrail from Arthur Street around 1:30 a.m. and was standing on the shoulder when he was hit by a light-colored pickup truck and knocked to the ground. Police said the driver failed to render aid.

A short time later, investigators said two more vehicles hit the man, and did not stop.

He wasn't discovered until the call for service at 9:15 a.m. police said.

The victim's identity has not been released at this time.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating.
