Demolition of Applegate Lane home filled with chemicals could be dismantled as early as Monday

Nicholasville, Kentucky-based CMC Environmental Services will remove the walls and roof of the house before they demolish the interior piece by piece.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Demolition of the Highview home filled with chemicals and explosive substances could begin as early as Monday.

Bulldozers and trailers currently sit outside of the home.

Instead of a controlled burn, Nicholasville, Kentucky-based CMC Environmental Services will remove the walls and roof of the house before they demolish the interior piece by piece.

Once the contents are removed, they will be placed in a steel tank in the backyard to be processed.

Rebecca Jackson, a neighbor, told WHAS11 News she is glad the city chose to go this route.

“We are not afraid of it. We have the EP air quality monitor in our yard. The wind is blowing, there’s not a burning house. We’re okay,” she said.

EPA said the demolition process could last nearly 12 days and neighbors in the area may see smoke or smell something strange during the dismantling process.
