Louisville FBI Director mentioned in threats landing California man in jail

Investigators say the suspect threatened to kill a U.S. official and their family.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Arrest documents filed in California claim a Berkley man is behind bars accused of threatening two people including a United States official. The document only refers to the victims as “Victim 1” and “Victim 2” and states the suspect left an e-mail stating that he would, “Gut you like a hog on Sunday”.

The document filed in the US District Court for Northern California shows the arrest warrant for Nathanial Blaine Luffman. It was issued after US Capitol Police were called about the email threat sent to US Capitol Police and Oregon Government Employees and a voicemail threat to “Victim 2’s” office in Portland, Oregon.

Monday, U.S. Senator Rand Paul told us that a man had been arrested after threatening to kill him and “chop up” his family.

"This week, someone threatened to kill me and chop my family up with an axe”, Senator Paul told the Rotary Club in Leitchfield. “He's been arrested. It's like, really? Where is this going to end?"

Monday, US Capitol Police would only confirm that there was an investigation but would not name a suspect, offer details or confirm a connection to what Senator Paul said.

Later Monday, Senator Paul tweeted, “Thank you to the US Capitol Police for their arrest of the man who recently threatened to kill my family and me.”

The arrest warrant for Nathanial Blain Luffman describes his email address as having been “on record with USCP since 2017 associated with other known threatening communications to members of Congress.”

While details on the identities of “Victim 1” and “Victim 2” are not clear, the document explains “Victim 1” is a female who, “is not a United States official, a United States judge, a federal law enforcement officer, or an official whose killing would be a crime under section 1114 of [United States Code, Title 18}”.

“Victim 2”, it is written, “is a United States official, a United States judge, a Federal law enforcement officer or an official whose killing would be a crime under section 1114 of [United States Code, Title 18}”.

According to investigators, an emailed threat sent on June 25th to a US Capitol Police Special Agent and several employees with the Oregon State Government included the headline, “Victim 1 & Victim 2 Found Dead Execution/Suicide” and mentioned Louisville FBI Director Amy Hess.

The email is quoted, “Victim 1” Amy Hess going put a bullet in your (expletive) head hear me (expletive)?”

Federal documents also claim the email explains, “Gut you like hog on Sunday “Victim 2”…”

A request for comment to the Louisville FBI office was returned stating that the FBI cannot confirm or deny the existence of an investigation. They referred us to the Capitol Police.

Luffman’s alleged voicemail threat was received Monday morning as well. A transcript of the voicemail claims Luffman threatened “Victim 2’s” family and mentioned knowledge of an assassination plot against President Obama in Kentucky. The arrest warrant states that Luffman claimed he would “hack to pieces” “Victim 2’s” children.

It closes with, “You’re trying to hurt papa Obama, boy? Alright. You wanna go to war? Let’s play war, boy. Let’s play war. Hoo-rah”.
