Kentucky Humane Society waives adoption fees for dogs 6 months and older

If you've been thinking about adopting a dog, consider welcoming your new furry family member into your home before April ends.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — If you've been considering adding a new furry family member into your home, now may be the best time.

The Kentucky Humane Society, located in Louisville, is waiving adoption fees for all dogs six months and older from April 18 to April 30.

You can stop by the KHS Sam Swope Pet TLC or the East Campus adoption centers to meet all the dogs and potentially find your perfect match. No appointment is required.

Starting April 18, The KHS Sam Swope Pet TLC location is extending its adoption hours on Thursdays to allow even more adopters time to visit with animals. The adoption center will now close at 7 p.m. every Thursday.

Adoption fees for dogs six months and older can be as high as $395, according to a KHS news release. This special offers savings for individuals and families who are ready to bring a pet home.

All KHS animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations. Jefferson County adopters do pay a $10.50 licensing fee and donations to the Humane Society are always appreciated.

“The Kentucky Humane Society is waiving adoption fees for dogs six months and up in hopes that more families will have an easier time bringing home a new companion,” Sara Rehfeld, shelter operations director at KHS, said. “KHS has so many amazing dogs in our care right now, representing a wide range of ages, breeds, and energy levels. You’re bound to find someone that fits your lifestyle.”
