Officials: Louisville SDF is the 'fastest growing airport' in the United States

Airport Director Dan Mann said Louisville's Muhammad Ali International Airport is shattering previous records.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville's Muhammad Ali International Airport is the fastest-growing airport in the continental U.S., according to airport officials.

Airport Director Dan Mann said the airport is shattering previous records and is busier than ever before.

He said every airline has had double-digit increases and now has 20% more seats in the market than in 2019 -- which was a record-setting year.

Remember, if you're heading to the airport between 4 and 7 a.m., officials suggest arriving at least two and a half hours earlier than your flight's departure.

Another tip, if you don't have to check a bag -- don't! That could be another big timesaver with increased delays.

"We all knew that nationally this was going to be a very busy season," Mann said. "Derby by far was the biggest Derby ever for us -- not even close -- previous record 13,500, we did almost 18,000 Sunday. And now we're in the summer months, so again, the morning push -- it is packed, it is busy, so don't forget to show up early."

Also underway right now are major improvements. Construction crews are working on the baggage claim area now.

Next, they'll move on to the checkpoint expansion, then they will work on "customer experience" -- adding new skylights, plug-ins and a major renovation to the exterior.
