Gasoline prices in Louisville are shooting up, according to the latest numbers released Monday by GasBuddy.

The average price for a gallon of gas in the city rose 14.3 cents in the last week for an average of $3.35, according to GasBuddy's survey of 644 stations in Louisville. Prices are 33.9 cents higher than a month ago and 16.2 cents higher than a year ago.

Just last week, GasBuddy reported a slight drop in gas prices. Now, Louisville is experiencing a large spike in gas prices.

The cheapest station in Louisville Sunday was priced at $3.07 a gallon, while the most expensive was $3.69.

The national average increased 6.4 cents a gallon last week for an average of $3.51. The national average for diesel fuel stands at $4.02 -- up 2 cents from last week.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices:

  • Lexington: $3.25/g, up 23.8 cents per gallon from last week's $3.01/g
  • Cincinnati: $3.43/g, up 14.5 cents per gallon from last week's $3.28/g

"We've now seen the national average price of gasoline rising for four straight weeks, which isn't uncommon for this time of year," Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said. What is uncommon is the number of attacks on Russian oil refiners; attacks which could have ripple effects worldwide if they continue. Russia could see more capacity impacted by the attacks, forcing it to buy such products on the global market, pushing prices up everywhere. With oil prices now under more pressure and attacks potentially increasing on Russian refiners, we could be in for a few more weeks of rising prices.

"Significant as well is the fact that Americans are now seeing inflation again at the pump with prices higher than they were a year ago."
