Rain doesn't wash crowds away from Kentucky Oaks

Win or lose, every one of these families were a part of the Oaks 150 excitement.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Even a rainy day won't wash the visitors away from Kentucky Oaks 150.

While this isn't the Tollmen's first time being at the track, it is their first time being participants.

"Our grandkids were here last fall with a FFA group and brought me a banner," Toots Tollmen said. "The 150th Kentucky Derby. So that worked out very super for us."

And they weren’t the only ones with historic Derby fever; two brothers from Missouri came to visit family and take part of the festivities.

“We've been here since Tuesday and it's been awesome for both of us to get off for the 150th anniversary,” Stephen Maguire Jr. said. “So it was a solid time to be able to come with the whole family.”

The Maguire family hosts a family reunion in the Derby City every five years so they are used to big groups and fun.

“I think last time we had about 750 people show up for that," Stephen said. "It was fantastic we rented a whole park. So Louisville is kind of like a second home.”

These families won't gamble too much on Oaks day, but Christopher Maguire believed luck was on his side.

“I did have a customer who gave me a $100 bill for the Derby and he said bet on a horse,” Christopher said. “So I'm excited to see how that turns out.”
