'Great view of the sky': Campgrounds in Indiana prepare for the eclipse

The campground owners said they are expecting a big influx of people ahead of the Great American Eclipse this Monday.

FRENCH LICK, Ind. — In less than four days, tables will be full of families watching the Great American Eclipse at Patoka Pines RV Campground and Boat Storage just south of downtown French Lick, Indiana.

"Everyone is just really getting ready for the influx of people and the traffic but yeah it's just going to be one big party," Angie Nachreiner said.

It's an exciting time for Angie and her husband, Dale Nachreiner, who just opened last year.

They are right in the path of eclipse gold total darkness.

Dale Nachreiner said, "with only having 18 full hookup sites we really didn't know what to expect until the eclipse came and now it's busier all the time."

Spots are filling fast and families are already setting up like Joe Gutzwiller and his wife who are visiting from Indianapolis, staying several days until the Monday eclipse.

"This one is actually open so I don't have to worry about trees or anything else, I have a great view of the sky there is nothing to obstruct the view here," Gutzwiller said.

He's looking forward to the entertainment and activities offered by nearby French Lick.

Just 15 minutes away is a sold out watch party where about 50 people are expected to be at Sleeping Bear Retreat looking at the eclipse in the sky.

Hank Watson said, "they'll just kind of come in Friday and Saturday and then I think all of them is coming in on Sunday."

He is already prepared with special glasses for his guests.

They will be staying in teepee's where there are four cots inside.

While it may be raining and sleeting now he's hoping to see warmer weather Monday so he can enjoy the special view himself.

"Oh yeah, I'm going to be taking pictures and entertaining myself," Watson said.

All for three minutes of darkness in the afternoon.
