UofL reaches settlement with former AD Jurich

The Board of Trustees and Jurich, announced, on May 18, through a statement they have reached a "complete, mutual and amicable resolution" following Jurich's firing in October 2017.

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- The University of Louisville reached a settlement agreement with former Athletic Director Tom Jurich.

After months of turmoil, the Board of Trustees and Jurich, announced through a statement they have reached a "complete, mutual and amicable resolution" following Jurich's firing. He was fired in October 2017. The termination came after the FBI announced they were continuing to investigate fraud and corruption across the country involving multiple college basketball programs, including UofL.

One of the sticking points for Jurich was he claimed to have been fired "without cause" and the university stated "cause." The university now agrees he was fired "without cause" but "as a result of his resignation".

"I have spent the better part of my career working with a dedicated team of athletes, coaches, and staff to elevate the University of Lousiville's Athletic Department and I am proud of what we accomplished which is well documented," Jurich said."

UofL Trustees Chair Grissom said he had no further comment on the settlement after Thursday's meeting between the ULAA and the trustees.

One aspect of the settlement is that parties will not comment on how the deal was reached or make disparaging remarks.

UofL President Neeli Bendapudi responded to questions when WHAS11 talked to her.

"...glad that this is behind us and look forward to moving on," Bendapudi said.

Jurich gets $4.5 million, plus deferred compensation, annuities, medical coverage, season tickets and parking at football and men's basketball for 20 years.
