LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) is launching a new mobile app that will allow riders to purchase transit tickets using their smartphone.

The transit system's new app, MyTARC Mobile, launched Tuesday and is now available for download.

"The addition of mobile ticketing will mean a better, faster way for customers to ride TARC," officials said. "Instead of worrying about exact change, customers can simply pay with a few taps of their smartphone."

The new app complements TARC's existing MyTARC card, officials said. Those cards remain available at participating Kroger locations and TARC's customer service kiosks at the Nia Center and TARC's downtown Louisville headquarters.

How the TARC app works

To use mobile ticketing, download the Token Transit App and search for TARC, then choose a ticket.

Standard passes for single trip, 24-hour, 7-day and 30-day passes, as well as any discounted ticket options, are available. Each also includes the standard two-hour transfer time as well, officials added.

TARC riders using the mobile app or MyTARC card receive a $0.25 discount over cash fare, meaning a single ride will cost $1.50 rather than $1.75.

Any TARC riders with existing reduced fare will need to call 502-585-1234 and ask to have their reduced fares added to their app account.

To ride, you will need to active your pass when ready to ride and scan the barcode on their phone face down on the farebox scanner.
