Suspect fatally shot by police after hitting officer, crashing into cruiser in Jeffersontown

LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said officers were conducting an investigative stop on the suspect's vehicle at Watterson and Ruckriegel Parkway.

JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Police Department's Public Integrity Unit is investigating after police fired shots at Watterson Trail and Ruckriegel Parkway. A suspect was fatally shot during an investigative stop of a vehicle believed to be connected to business robberies, police said. 

LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said LMPD officers were conducting an investigative stop on a suspect vehicle at about 10:30 a.m. Mitchell said the vehicle was believed to be involved in multiple business robberies in the Louisville area. 

An officer was outside the suspect vehicle when he was hit by that suspect vehicle. That vehicle then hit a Jeffersontown police vehicle. Shots were fired at the suspect and that suspect was pronounced dead a the hospital.

A woman who lives near the intersection told WHAS11 she heard six to seven gunshots and went to see what happened: “When I went up to look all I could see is Ruckriegel and Watterson Trail is taped off, and there’s probably 6 identified police cars and probably an equal amount of unidentified police cars."

LMPD's Public Integrity Unit is investigating. 

No officers were seriously hurt during this situation.
