Lawmakers pass cosmetology bill to help nail technicians in Kentucky

Senate Bill 14 is designed to give nail technicians more representation on the state board and more opportunity in the licensing process.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Editor's Note: The video in the player is from Oct. 2023.

A bill the WHAS11 FOCUS Team has been watching has cleared the General Assembly and now heads to Governor Andy Beshear’s desk.

Senate Bill 14 is designed to give nail technicians more representation on the state board and more opportunity in the licensing process.

Nail techs and salon owners told our FOCUS Team in 2023 about instances of abuse of power by the state board.

They also described discrimination with applicants forced to test in English even if they don’t speak the language.

This bill requires a nail technician to be on the board and allows for re-testing.
