LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — Investigators released body camera footage after officers shot and killed a man they said was armed with a shotgun.
The victim, 35-year-old Benjamin Kennedy, died after exchanging gunfire with police Wednesday night. Police initially responded to a domestic disturbance in the Fern Creek Neighborhood.
Police tell WHAS11 the shooting happened just after 11 p.m. on the 9000 block of Mary Dell Lane near Charles Vettiner Park.
Officers said there was a confrontation when they arrived. The man fired shots at police and they returned fire, killing him at the scene.
The officers that fired their weapons were William Mattingly and Dallas Constant. They were both hired in 207. Mattingly had previously worked for LMPD before and had retired but was rehired in 2017.
The officers are OK. The incident is being investigated by PIU (Public Integrity Unit), while the investigation is underway the officers involved will be on administrative leave, which is protocol.
