LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Recent reports of mold, bugs and safety concerns at public housing properties, Metro Council is launching an investigation into Louisville Metro Housing Authority.

The Government Oversight and Audit Committee approved an order to start the investigation – meaning it does not need full council approval.

The investigation would include looking at the circumstances of the housing conditions, leadership and management at the Housing Authority and identifying any shortcomings in training or policy.

District 4 Councilman Jecory Arthur represents the area which includes Dosker Manor and co-sponsored the original proposal.

“I want to encourage all the residents to get involved in the investigation so that we can work together to make the housing authority better. We've got some of the best public schools, public libraries, and public parks in this city and we think we should have some of the best public housing as well.”

Newly appointed Housing Authority director Elizabeth Strojan was asked about the investigation after a meeting about Dosker Manor.

She told WHAS11 News she welcomes all ideas and thoughts on what they can do better.

“I’m not worried about an investigation in terms of what they might find or anything like that because if there are issues, I want to know about it,” Strojan said. “That’s my job to know about it.”

Strojan says she also wants to sit down with councilmembers to go over the information and reports that are already publicly available.
