LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The month of May is certainly living up to its reputation as Kentucky and Indiana's wettest month. Memorial Day weekend plans will likely be disrupted by occasional showers and thunderstorms, especially on Sunday.

Saturday

Saturday will be the warmest day of the holiday weekend with highs reaching for the middle 80s. Most of the day will stay dry and partly cloudy locally. However, if you are traveling east be prepared for pop-up thunderstorms through the afternoon.

Sunday

Sunday is a day where we need to keep our eyes to the sky.

Multiple waves of widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely and some storms could become strong to severe. Damaging wind, large hail, heavy rain and tornadoes are possible along with frequent cloud to ground lightning. An additional 2-3 inches of rain is expected, so localized flooding could become an issue.

The morning will stay dry and very humid with highs approaching the upper 80s. Plan on storms arriving right after the lunchtime hour and carrying on through the late night. A few storms may linger into early morning Monday.

It would be best to plan to observe the Memorial Day holiday indoors on Sunday.

Be sure to have multiple ways to receive watches and warnings if one is issued in your neighborhood.

Memorial Day

Monday could feature lingering showers and thunderstorm early, with drier conditions expected through the afternoon. Temperatures will be seasonably warm and comfortable, in the lower 80s.
