Mayor Fischer addresses FOP's no confidence vote

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer today addressed a recent FOP vote that shows an overwhelming amount of members have no confidence in Chief Steve Conrad.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer today addressed a recent FOP vote that shows an overwhelming amount of members have no confidence in Chief Steve Conrad.

601 members of the River City FOP took part in the vote, with 98 percent of those saying they did not have confidence in the chief's leadership.

Mayor Greg Fischer says he appreciates the union's input, but with 113 homicides in the Metro in 2016, it's time to get back to work.

"This is a distraction from what we need to be focused on in the city. And that's addressing the spike in violent crime and homicides that our city has seen and way too many places in the country as well,” Fischer said.

Chief Steve Conrad responded to the vote on Facebook yesterday saying in part, "The union has a right to voice their opinion, but any leader will tell you that leadership is about doing the right thing, at the right time, rather than the popular thing."
