This is the fifth year in a row Louisville Metro EMS has been recognized for "going above and beyond" for their pediatric emergency care.

The Kentucky Emergency Medical Services for Children (KYEMSC) Advisory Committee recognized Louisville Metro Emergency Services (EMS) on Wednesday for their pediatric care.

This is the fifth year in a row Louisville Metro EMS has been recognized for "going above and beyond" for their pediatric emergency care according to officials.

“We know that our younger pediatric patients differ in many ways from older adult patients, and it’s critically important that our EMS put every effort into being prepared to provide excellent pre-hospital care for children in any emergency situation,” Executive Director Jody Meiman said. “I’m proud of our EMS team for stepping up year after year to earn the KYEMSC Voluntary EMS Pediatric Recognition.”

Along with meeting the criteria for the KYEMSC Voluntary EMS Pediatric Recognition Program, Metro EMS has also:

  • Established a Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator
  • Required annual courses dedicated to caring for pediatric patients
  • An annual evaluation of pediatric skills
  • Attend outreach events focusing on pediatric care
