LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thursday marks one week since protests over the Breonna Taylor case began.
While crowds have lessened due to weather, people continue to demonstrate in not just downtown Louisville, but other areas of the city.
Taylor would have celebrated her 27th birthday June 5.
All week, protesters have remained critical of both the mayor and governor after they enforced a city-wide curfew and brought in the National Guard, respectively.
Fischer announced the curfew would end immediately Thursday, saying protests have remained peaceful a week after seven people were shot during the first night of protests.
"The purpose was to obviously have as few people as possible so we could better identify people that are taking advantage of the peaceful protests to create mayhem," Fischer said. "Now, as the days have gone on and the protests have stayed peaceful and the community is saying, 'Can you take the curfew off,' we want to listen to the community."
Still, protesters say more needs to be done.
"I see removing that curfew is one thing, removing the national guard from the West End was another thing," protester Shameka Parrish-Wright said. "I see steps being taken. There's still some more major steps to be taken."
Taylor's family and protesters are calling on the officers involved in Taylor's death to be fired.
"We're not saying fire the whole police force, we're saying fire those three officers that killed her," Parrish-Wright said. "We know it's a tough decision all around, but we know it's the right decision."
Protesters say they will continue to protest peacefully until they get justice for Breonna Taylor.
"That's all we want," protester Rosie Henderson said. "We want to keep it peaceful. We don't want to fight the police, we don't want to get hit by no bullets."
