LIHEAP Crisis Program begins, assists low-income families with utilities

Residents who wish to apply for assistance can set up an appointment by phone or online.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will enter its Crisis Phase on January 7.

The program is aimed at preventing low-income residents from being disconnected from their utility services by providing financial assistance.

The Crisis phase of LIHEAP operates January 7 through March 29, or until the funding runs out. Residents with past due notices may also be eligible to apply for the program during this phase. 

Residents who wish to apply must make an appointment by calling 502-991-8391 or by applying online at louisvilleky.cascheduler.com. The toll-free application service will be available 24/7.

Applicants must be Jefferson County residents with a household income at or below 130% of the federal poverty guidelines. For a household of four, the gross monthly income cannot exceed $2,720.

Applicants must also meet ONE of the following eligibility requirements:

  • Received a brown bill, disconnect notice from their utility service provider
  • Received a current bill with a past due amount
  • Received an eviction notice if their utilities are included in the rent
  • Within 4 days of running out of bulk fuel
  • Within 10 days of running out of pre-paid electric services
