Ky. group shows support for HS player who takes knee

Chappell was not alone during Friday’s game with Atherton; the entire team took a knee after the first play and received a delay of game penalty.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A show of support tonight for a local high school football player who took a knee during the national anthem last week.

Members of the Kentucky Green Party stood in unity for Waggener Jr., Tre Chappell.

Chappell kneeled during last week's game against Shawnee.

On Friday, supporters were at Waggener's game against Atherton to stand in agreement with the high schooler.

“High school is tough, people get made fun of and he didn’t care. He was like, this is what I stand for and as a mom it makes me so proud,” Allison Stevens of the Kentucky Green Party said.
