'Just Imagine' | Norton Healthcare announces fundraising campaign

The purpose of the campaign is to expand services and hire more specialists.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Norton Healthcare has an ambitious goal of trying to improve health care one step at a time through it's recently announced "Just Imagine" fundraising campaign.

The healthcare giant, along with other Louisville leaders, announced on Tuesday the campaign's goal is to reach $200 million during the next two years. So far, it has raised $154.5 million through a quiet phase of the campaign.

“The ‘Just Imagine’ campaign is a visionary journey that strives to build something greater and take health care to a new level,” President and CEO Russell Cox said.

The purpose of the campaign is to expand access and clinical research, as well as hire and train more specialists. A Norton spokesperson said the donations will be used to improve health equity, diabetes care, heart care, cancer care, critical care, neurosciences and pediatric behavioral care.

And Norton is building the first hospital in west Louisville in 150 years.

The $100 million dollar facility is on track to open in November, right next door to the Goodwill West Louisville Opportunity Center.

"Imagine what can happen at 28th and Broadway, an area that has not had attention for so long that can really begin to answer some of the issues of health equity," Cox said.

They hope that by expanding these services they'll not only be able to better serve Greater Louisville, but communities throughout Kentucky and southern Indiana.

Corenza Townsend will run the new hospital as the chief administrative officer and looks forward to meeting patients.

"I want to see you when you're well, I want to see when you're coming to get checkups I want to see you utilizing the facility, the community room," Townsend said.

Lynnie Meyer, the senior vice president chief development officer at Norton Healthcare, said that they're "advancing the research agenda so that all the citizens in our region have access to absolute top-quality care."

Seeing Norton's investment, like the new hospital, means a lot to donors like Dr. Mark Lynn and his family.

"The access into places that haven't had access you know it's a much bigger deeper plan," Lynn said.
