LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Officials say a two-year-old has been seriously injured after a lawnmower incident in Jennings County, Indiana.

The Jennings County Sheriff's Office says the grandparents of the toddler told them the grandfather was mowing the yard Saturday afternoon on a riding mower at a home on Grayford Road.

That’s when they told police the toddler ran toward his grandfather as the grandmother gave chase to get him to stop. The grandfather was backing the mower when the toddler fell and went underneath the mower, causing injury.

The toddler was transported to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital for initial treatment but was flown to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis with serious injuries.

Police are investigating but their preliminary indications say the incident was a ‘terrible accident’.
