Former Manual High star murdered, loved ones yearing for justice

Friends remember Aaron Williams, who was killed Jan. 20.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Doing better every day.

That phrase was more than a saying for Aaron Williams, it was how he lived his life.

"Why would you take this man – who's a loving father, great brother, perfect friend, amazing son," Derrance Lawson, Williams' best friend asked.

Williams was unable to continue that mantra, he was murdered on January 20th.

Police say he was found shot inside his car on Manslick Road.

"They said I just got a message saying they just found Aaron is dead – nah I hung up," Lawson explained.

Lawson has been one of Williams' best friends for almost 20 years. We met at a very familiar place, Manual High School's gym where Lawson and Williams strengthened their bond, on and off the court.

"Aaron was feeding me left and right, we fed off each other, that's what it was man – a brotherhood."

If it wasn't for my faith, I'd have a hard time dealing with these things," Coach Jimmy Just said.

He started his Manual career coaching Williams from 2007-2008. The Crimson won the Louisville Invitational Tournament and Williams scored a career high 42 points in the King of the Bluegrass Tournament.

"Life should mean more than that and it doesn't seem like life means as much as it should," Just said.

"To know he's over there in the car – just sitting deceased. That's no way – he didn't deserve to go out that way," Lawson somberly recalled.

A snowy Wednesday, Lawson will never forget because lately, snowstorms have brought him nothing but terrible news.

"We're out of school there's snow everywhere I get a call from Aaron saying my little cousin passed away," he said.

Williams's cousin, 23-year-old Keiandre Grinstead died in February 2015. He was shot and killed in the Portland neighborhood.

"It hurts because he's the one who called me when Keiandre passed [and] now I'm getting calls saying my best friend is dead." Doing better every day, it's something so many of us try to do."

Williams now utters that saying from up above. For Lawson and so many others, they have to do better every day and Aaron wouldn't have it any other way.

Aaron Williams' wake is this Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the funeral is Saturday morning at 11 both are taking place at Way Christian Church in downtown Louisville.

If you saw or know anything about this murder, many are pleading with you to call 574-LMPD.

There weren't any special announcements about Williams tonight but his Crimson pride is probably extra high because Manual beat Moore, that final score was 59-53.
