Kentucky man, brother shot and killed in Florida before family vacation

Police said a 62-year-old man visiting his brother before a vacation in Florida ended in tragedy.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Shepherdsville man is dead after a double homicide in Florida.

Detectives with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said 62-year-old Wesley Barber was visiting his brother 61-year-old James Barber Sr. and nephew James Barber Jr. prior to leaving for a family vacation.

When Wesley and James Sr. did not show up, family members grew concerned.

Authorities were sent to James Sr.’s Largo, Florida home for a welfare check Friday morning. When the deputies arrived, they saw what appeared to be blood coming from under the front door.

After entering the home, Wesley and James Sr. were found shot multiple times.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said they were able to locate surveillance camera audio that captured the murders, identifying James Jr. as the suspect.

James Jr. fled the scene before police arrived but was arrested Saturday in Hillsborough County.

He’s facing two counts of first-degree murder.
